For many years we have relied on smoke detectors to keep our homes safe from potential fire hazards. We have all had to silence them at some point at least once in our life time, however, despite the annoying sound they make and the inconvenience they are to have when you’re simply cooking or lighting candles at home, we STILL believe in them and continue to replace the batteries (if needed) on them when the time is due. Why? simply because we know that device is there for a reason and it can save our lives in the unfortunate event our home catches on fire.
So why do carbon monoxide detectors don’t always have a place in our home/s aswell? You see, much like smoke detectors, CO detectors (carbon monoxide detectors) play a huge role in keeping our homes safe. The device senses the gas we can’t smell or see, the silent killer that does not announce itself like smoke does, CO.
Many towns are adopting this device as a requirement when building a home from the ground up, or even when a home owner is remodeling their own home to place on the market to sell. Most of us dislike when we’re told we NEED to install certain things in our homes to get it up to code. I can assure you even the most talented contractors them selves dislike some of the rules and requirements our village of residence imply on us. However, I strongly believe that CO detectors are a good idea, and should be a requirement in everyone’s home.
From a contractor’s point of view, understanding the danger we are constantly in due to CO producing equipment (gas stove, gas furnace, gas water heater, gas boiler etc) I believe we should be more mindful in ensuring our home/s are equipped with the correct equipment to keep us safe.
Fortunately for us, CO detectors are fairly inexpensive. Buying combination “Smoke and CO detector/s” is a nice way to go, as you will simply be upgrading your existing smoke detectors, rather than adding more clutter to your beautiful ceilings. You won’t even notice the difference in appearance, but you will be at ease knowing you and your loved ones are safe at home.
CO detectors are a true return on investment, as a human life is PRICELESS. Do yourself and your loved ones a huge favor and install the device that could safe your life!
